…and then there were four

New Born Baby

about three quarters of a day old

On Monday morning, about 3:20am, another Illiterate Infant came into the world. There’s a whole birth story waiting to be told about this one, but for now, I’ll just summarise it by saying that my wife amazed me, filled me with pride and proved that I am a terrible judge of character.

There will be a bit of radio silence for the next few days while we get to know our new family member but hang in there, I’ll be announcing the winner of the baby stats guessing competition later in the week.

Thanks to everyone that’s sent their well wishes. I have been blown away not just by the amount of really beautiful things that people have had to say but at the way people within the parenting blogging community love good news. Thanks everyone.

A newborn is full of little challenges one after the other and our next one is to agree on a name. We’ve got a shortlist but thought we would get to know our little girl first – hopefully we can sort that out tomorrow.

How long did it take you to name your child? Did you already have the name picked out or did you decide after the fact? Did you change your mind once you met them?

I’ll be sharing my good news this week with Jess at essentiallyjess.com for IBOT – you should check her out – she’s awesome.

Congrats again both on creating such a beautiful little one and on no longer having a UTD wife!

Names – little fella is 18 months old and I’m still uncertain on his name. Took us a week and we went through a name a day during that period. No wonder he still looks confused all the time…. Names for the next two have been chosen, as we seem to agree more on girls’ names. If it were two boys this time around, we would be royally screwed!

    Congrats Kev! 🙂

With Miss Z, we went in with three names. The first two were my pick, and the third on the list was hubby’s. Mid labour I was telling the midwife that there was NO way hubby was getting his choice of name……in the end Miss Z came out looking VERY different than expected, and the name Zara (hubby’s choice) fitted perfectly!. With Master M, when he came out we had 6 names on the list…..we both looked at each other and said “Max”! The name Max was not on the original list! Funny how things work… 🙂

Wow, how adorable she is, wrapped all snugly in her swaddling. Naming five kids went fairly smoothly for us. Years before having children I had picked the name of my eldest child. So when I was pregnant with me first I had a boy name chosen and we got down to our top three girls names, which we didn’t choose. We knew we were having a boy the second time, so went trawling through the baby name book and had a shortlist that we chose from. For the triplets, we chose one of the girls name that we hadn’t used the first time and used two names from the shortlist leftover from child number two. Second names have always been family names. Everyone thought that choosing six names for triplets would be tricky, but it really wasn’t!

  11. Congratulations again! She is adorable and those cheeks need squeezing (hers of course!)
Being the person that I am, both our boys’ names were picked out before they were born – first and middle names selected
It was easy with our first one, but it took us ages to find a name we linked for the second – for a minute there I thought he was going to be born without a name!
Good luck sorting out your new little on’es name – what a beautiful position to be in – choosing a name for your precious little girl xx

  12. Oh Kev, congrats again!!! I swear, seeing her gorgeous picture, if I wasn’t already pregnant I be bailing Dave up tonight! You breed some cute kids! Can’t wait to hear all about your adventures as a truly man among three women!

We had a name for a boy picked years before I was even pregnant, a girls name was our problem. But with about 5 weeks to go we both found a name we liked and I kept goin over it in my mind, trying to see if it felt right. And as soon as se was born we both knew it was perfect. This time I have a name I really like and now we know its a girl I’ve been testing it in my mind and I’m pretty happy with it but not sure about Dave, he’s pretty ambivalent and doesn’t see the point deciding so early!

Congratulations!!! That’s awesome news. So happy to hear she arrived safely. She’s gorgeous.

Congratulations!! Se looks like a little angel! Can’t wait to hear all the vital statistics 🙂

We had names picked out for our two and when they arrived they looked exactly like their names so they stuck!

Our #2 son was nameless for about 3 days!

    Congrats again!

  19. So lovely! All the best to your beautiful family x P.S.- Who won the stats contest? ….No need to answer that for a few more months, when things have calmed a bit 😉

  20. SarahMac says:

Congratulations. SUch a lovely time! I have only just discovered you and look forward to getting to know both your illiterate infants ha! From Sarah aka Slapdash Mama x

  21. Kelly HTandT says:

Look at all of that puffy newborn goodness! Looking forward to the birth story.
2 of our kids were named before they were born. H was nameless for 6 hours due to both circumstances and disagreement. And 6 hours was WAY too long for my liking!
Hope you’re all getting some rest.

  22. Once again Congratulations! She really is so wonderfully beautiful!
As for names, we had them picked for the first three, and then the last one it was out of two. We decided to just wait and see, until I texted boatman at about 4 am and asked if it could be Ava, cause I hated the thought of her not having a name any longer.
And he agreed cause it was 4am, so that was well done by me!!! 😉

  23. mogletho says:

Oh congrats Kevin….fantastic news!!so damn cute! Enjoy ‘

  24. Congratulations, she’s adorable, enjoy this precious time as you all settle in together. It took us about 8 hours to finally settle on a name for our little one, we were pretty sure it would be out of two names but wanted to wait until he was here to decide. Hope your name choice comes without too much debate 🙂

  25. Congratulations to the whole II family 🙂 We had our girls name settled at 10 weeks and settled on a boys name at 30 weeks. My daughter’s name means little warrior, which is fitting, given she was impatient and arrived at 33 weeks.

  26. We had names picked well before they were born – boys and girls – mainly because the Husband and I couldn’t agree on many so the process was LONG, so we started early. Birth is amazing and I’ve just crossed my legs and shivered and signed knowing I’ll never have to do it again – OUCH. CONGRATS to you all Kevin x

  27. I”m a bit late but just popped in to see if the newest II had arrived and suprise…she’s here. Big congratulations to you all. Hope everything is going well and a name is chosen. I have to admit that we had already picked both our girls names before they were born. And after spending a lifetime saying that my children would only have one middle name, they both have two. Whoops. It was just that there were so many names I liked and so many relatives that had great names I wanted to use lol
